We are a small library in Southeast Kansas with story times during the summer and then another story time during the fall and winter. This past summer our theme was “Adventures” and we learned about Kansas places. We virtually traveled across the state to places that our kids and parents might want to explore, such as Dodge City with their rodeos, famous lawmen, and Boot Hill Museum. We traveled to Topeka to visit the capitol building, the Gage Park and Gage Zoo, and Board of Education vs. Rosa Parks Museum. The kids learned about the Salt Mines of Hutchinson, the Cosmosphere and Lake Afton’s Observatory by Goddard. The children had craft times and a snack.
Currently our story times are about FOOTBALL – THE KANSAS CITY CHIEFS. October- February on the third Thursday at 11:30 a.m. We learned in October about the NFL and Kansas City Chiefs by making a timeline of their history. In November the kids listened to a story about “The Berenstain Bears Play Football”. Some of the KCC players were discussed and the kids learned their Jersey numbers and what positions they played. They helped with a matching game on the magnetic easel board. During Storytime in December the children will find out more about KC Wolf, the Kansas City Chiefs mascot.
Fall/ Winter Storytime continues in 2025 on January 17 as the Hamilton City Library Kids (The Tough Guys) learn more about the Kansas City Chiefs and play games. Join us as we play Mini Cornhole, Pin the Football on the Field and listen to a story about football. Kids are given points for attending Storytime and also, for reading books during this time. The last Storytime will be in February (the Friday before the Super Bowl). Points will be used to spend on prizes at the party. Games, treats and possibly a craft activity will be starting at 11:30 a.m.
